First licences issued in Oregon for psilocybin producers

Oregon has issued the first licences for the manufacturers of psilocybin and magic mushrooms. The Oregon Health Authority announced that Satori Farms PDX and Satya Therapeutics have been provided manufacturing licences.

On January 1st, of this year, Oregon became the first state in the U.S. to legalise psilocybin. The bill was originally passed in November 2020. It allows the Oregon Health Authority to license and regulate the manufacturing, transportation and sale of psilocybin products.

Psilocybin centres allow anyone over the age of 21 to consume psilocybin under supervision. It should be noted that the bill does not allow for recreational use of psilocybin

Since the passing of the bill, the process of legalising psilocybin has been built from the ground up.

At the start of the month, students who took part in psilocybin facilitator programs began to graduate.

The state is yet to provide licences to any of the facilitators just yet but this is expected shortly as well as providing licences to service centres. Laboratories that test psilocybin substances will also be required to have a licence.

How much the service will cost is still yet to be revealed, but there are fears in Australia that citizens who are less well-off may be prices out. Figures of approximately $25,000 have been suggested in Australia, who recently legalised MDMA and psilocybin for therapeutic use.

Questions also remain about hoe will federal law and federal taxes be applied to those businesses operating in the psilocybin industry. When cannabis was legalised in many states across America, many of the new-found companies struggled with banking relationships due to the federal laws.

Despite this, there certainly appears to be a growing movement in the U.S. regarding psychedelics. Just in the past week, a new Political Action Committee was founded with the aim of getting more funding for psychedelic research.
