Cannaray announces first UK cannabis prescription for toddler

Cannaray has fulfilled a medical cannabis prescription to a three-year-old British girl – the medical cannabis and CBD firm’s first in the UK.

Jorja Emerson, who suffers from severe epilepsy, is one of the few patients in the UK to access treatment since medical cannabis was legalised in the UK in November 2018.

Jorja’s father is Robin Emerson, who has just been appointed the business’s first director of patient support and will work with Cannaray patients and families to provide personal insight to those undergoing treatment.

Cannaray CEO Scott Maguire said: “Working with the medical community to provide specialist support and access to cannabis-based drugs for patients in dire need of this treatment is fundamental to our strategy.

“We are pleased to assist Robin in accessing treatment for his daughter and we will continue to drive for broader and continuous cannabis access for patients.”

Cannarary is also starting a new round for expansion in 2020.

Gregor Zorn, chief science officer, said: â€śImprovements in technology and dedicated research have allowed us to start understanding the full potential of this healing plant.”

Patients can be prescribed medicinal cannabis by specialist doctors in the UK as of November 2018.

It is the first time UK medical experts have had the option to legally issue prescriptions for cannabis-based medicines if they think it could help their patient.

Before the ruling, almost all cannabis-based medicinal products were judged to have no therapeutic value.

However, there have only been a handful of prescriptions because of uncertainty over safety and effectiveness.
