Top kickboxer hits CBD for sporting success

A top kickboxer has opened up about how CBD oil keeps him fighting fit.

Northern Irish kickboxer Johnny ‘Swift’ Smith, who in June became the WKN Intercontinental Professional super-welterweight champion after his victory over South Korean Jihoon Lee, is a keen advocate of CBD for aiding sleep and sports recovery.

Smith, 32, who is sponsored by Amma Life, said: “I find that leading up to a competition my sleep is not that good.

“Three drops of Amma Life CBD oil and I sleep really well. CBD helps with my sports recovery too, which means I can push myself to train harder.”

Since they were removed from World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of banned substances in 2017, sports enthusiasts have turned to CBD health supplements to aid recovery and increase their performance.

The stresses and strains that cause aches and pains post-workout can be soothed by CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties, scientists believe.Research is still underway, but according to a 2018 review of 132 original studies published in Frontiers in Neurology, CBD can reduce inflammation in the body and help improve pain and mobility in patients with multiple sclerosis.

The review study’s authors concluded: “It is anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antiemetic, antipsychotic, and neuroprotective.”

Sophia Ali, Director of Amma Life said: “CBD is fast becoming recognised as an essential element in a sports person toolkit.

“CBD can support pre and post workout training. It can be a great asset when someone wants to train harder for a competition or upcoming marathon.

“This is why more and more professional athletes are turning to CBD supplements to achieve peak fitness performance.”
