Former minister makes prediction for UK cannabis

According to Crispin Blunt, a former Conservative minister, cannabis will be legalised in the UK in the next five years.

Blunt is known for supporting liberal drug laws and recently chaired a parliamentary group on drug reform. As the co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Drug Policy Reform, Blunt will be bringing the conversation about cannabis to mainstream politics.

The reform group is owned entirely by investors and raised around ÂŁ400,000 in February – demonstrating that businesses are in favor of reforming the law around cannabis. Emphasising the economic benefits that the cannabis market could bring to the UK, Blunt told the House of Commons that the country could take a “decent slug of the global market”.

Although the UK has legalised some uses of medical cannabis, there is currently no suggestion that legislation – which currently classifies cannabis as a Class B drug – will change any time soon.
