A cannabis technology company has designed what it claims is the first certified child-resistant vape device.
Kanvas says its Child-Resistant Disposable Vaporizer is the first all-in-one hardware solution to pass stringent child-resistant testing.
The California-based company says the patent-pending “push-and-turn technology disengages the battery to prohibit device operation”.
A press release states it was tested by an accredited laboratory to meet the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) standards for child-resistant packaging.
Andy Fathollahi, Kanvas CEO, said: “We are proud to be the first in our industry to introduce an end-to-end vape solution with certified child-resistant functionality.
“Unlike devices from other hardware manufacturers, the Kanvas Child-Resistant Disposable Vaporizer is the first and only complete device that offers peace of mind out of the box.
“We have a tremendous engineering department that worked tirelessly to make our goal of child safety in the vape category a reality.”
The release adds that the product is secured with a DualLock snap-on compression fit mouthpiece that eliminates tampering and leaks.
Vaping and safety have come to the fore in the US following a spate of deaths associated with e-cigarettes.
The number of confirmed deaths has risen to 37 and more than 1,800 became ill throughout the US, according to the Centers For Disease Control.
The CDC is recommending that consumers stop vaping, particularly THC and CBD.
The death toll has risen steadily since the first fatality in August. The CDC has dubbed the illness EVALI – e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury.
All patients have reported a history of using e-cigarette, or vaping, products. Of the 849 patients the CDC was able to get data on what they vaped, 78% said they used THC.
