Green technology: 7-Eleven installs CBD vending machines

A major US retail chain has unveiled CBD vending machines.

7-Eleven stores in Colorado are trialling vending machines produced by Greenbox Robotics, an industrial automation company, reports Cheddar.

Kenneth Monfort, who owns 7-Eleven stores across the state, said: “I believe that adding Greenbox to our convenience stores will add value, intrigue, and delight our customers while reducing shrinkage.

”We trust Greenbox to curate the CBD collection we offer our customer base.”

Consumers can browse through the catalogue of CBD products and a robot arm then delivers the product. Greenbox also uses a sophisticated age and ID verification system and are also designed to reduce the theft of high-priced CBD products.

The firm has also partnered with the Fox Theater venue in the city of Boulder to deliver a Willy Wonka-style Golden Ticket programme, where Greenbox will stock prizes in its machines including backstage passes, tickets and signed merchandise.

Greenbox Robotics CEO and founder Zack Johnson said: “It’s one of those defining moments as an entrepreneur, where this is what we hoped for… placing our units in a location where they want to sell CBD, they want to introduce this trending product, but it has to be done the right way.

“We are hoping that Greenbox answers that call.”

Recreational cannabis is legal in Colorado. The Colorado Amendment 64, which was passed by voters on November 6, 2012, led to legalisation in January 2014. The policy has led to cannabis tourism.

A spokesperson for the parent corporation 7-Eleven said the company “does not support or promote the sale of ingestible cannabis-based products”.
